I hear a clunk sometimes when putting the car in reverse or start going in reverse coming from the back of the car. It usually seems to only happen when parked for a good while and only on the first time reversing out of my garage. It has a slight incline if that makes any difference? Any suggestions?
The clunk noise seems to come as soon as I start to move the car in reverse..

Four things to look:

First: did you lowered your car?
If you did, driveshaft roller and spider (inside of the driveshaft), causing the inboard joint to unevenly wear out. You need a spacers.

If not, check the driveshaft u-joint.

Worse scenario if your differential planet gear and pinion are worn.

Check also the halfshaft (greese boot rip?).

HAHAHA... I know exactly what your problem is. Do you live in a humid area? Do you live in a cold area. well whatever on to the problem. You brakes get moisture in them. You set your E-brake every night before you go to bed right. That noise you are hearing is after you disengage the e-brake sometimes the pads will stick to the disc's and when you move the car it will free them. Good way to test this is next time your car sits a while go out to it unlock it dont start it put the e-brake down then push it forward or back and see if you hear the POP. If so problem solved. If it is due to the cold weather then instead of parking brake put it in gear.


Just a thought.

this happens to me also but not just in the cold but after a long drive in nice weather as well.

Could be sticking break pads - I get that sometimes, but only after rain or wasing the car. Could be the old "rear axle pop" that there's a TSB for. But that's something you typically hear each time you change directions.

The transmission spins in neutral just from the fluid in the transmission and friction on the parts. You're hearing the small amount of spin coming to a sudden stop against the reverse gear.

I get that same noise when the car is parked overnight. I'll try homicydalboy's test to see if it's just the E-brake.

Ok cool. Yeah I do always have the E brake on when parking so hopefully that is it. I am lowered but I had the same noise before I lowered my car. Only lowered 1 inch also with Eibach Pro Kit springs.
I had the axle nut TSB done when I first got my car almost 2 years ago.

Yeah I get the POP too. I had it on my tacoma for the longest time and figured out what it was. It will happen even if it is dry too. If you take the car for a nice long drive and come home the brakes are usually a little warm well you rip the E-brake up and park the car for the night over night the brakes cool down and will sometimes stick to the disks. Mine does it every time almost if it is parked for a while.
