Opps...Pressed "enter" by mistake...
I have just purchased a used s2000 with I'M on it.
I hear this out off place sound.
When the gear is engaged with your foot off of the clutch.
I notice something clanking or rattling (near proximal tranny area) when you let go of your foot on the throttle? It is more prevalent at lower RPM's. And it gets pretty loud sometimes. What can that be? Is that normal with s2000?

Sounds to me like you've got the infamous "clutch rattle." The symptoms are: buzzing noise from about 4,000 rpm to 3,000 rpm when decelerating with the clutch engaged in the lower gears. It sounds very much like a heat shield rattling, but heat shields typically rattle at the same rpm on both acceleration and deceleration. The clutch does it only when decelerating. Honda issued a technical service bulletin regarding the repair.
Results reported on this board have been mixed. Everyone that had the repair said it eliminated the noise, but many reported that it returned after a few thousand miles.
There's widespread agreement that it does no harm; it's just irritating.
Mine's doing it now, and I'm debating about getting it fixed in the spring.

although im not very familiar with the service bulliten that was mentioned earlier.....it sounds like it could be a worn pilot bushing.
you didnt mention how many miles you have on your used s, but if u need a new clutch soon....just remember to replace that piece.

Is your clutch rattle while driving or is it just while starting out in 1st? I sometimes have a rattle when I start off if I don't add quite enough power when I start. I just dismissed this as the "opps I almost stalled" rattle. I this rattle is pretty common, cause I've been in a couple of other s2k's that have also done it.

The dealership will change you a whole new clutch disk to have that buzz go away, but the noise will eventually come back due to vibrations made by the engine. I suggest you get this service done while you're still under warranty.
