Well, since it looks like this is resolved...

I have a semi related question... I've had my S a few months now, it's a well run-in engine at 60k miles, previous owner looked after it, but did not totally baby it. No mods to engine or exhaust. It's in good shape for a 2001, compression is good, it burns some oil (no more than normal for an AP1), but coolant is not going anywhere....

So my question... After reading above, I understand that it is normal for the S to make a lot of exhaust gas at stop lights in cold weather? Cos it really does. It's not so noticeable on warmer days...

Yeah if the smoke is actually white than it is coolant/water. Color of smoke can be confusing many times. Having no test pipe should leave black smoke if any at all.
My bumpers get a nice little coating of black from the test pipe.

its your test pipe i promise you. this is the reason i switched to a HFC. it would happen to me at idle when at a stop light or in traffic. if my top was down i could smell it before it happened. it was an burning oil smell. when i would leave (gently) i would have a trail of smoke behind me. it's kinda embarrassing, having a nice car do that. anyways, i noticed that when i would put my stock cat back on it wouldnt do that. a cat hides everything. your car probably uses a little oil in between changes. the test pipe lets you know when this oil is being burnt, and oddly, it happens quite frequently at stop lights or at idle settings. that's not to say that it doesnt happen during vtec engagement, because it did for me as well (clouds of whitesh smoke). put a HFC or your stock cat back on and i will gaurentee that it wont happen.

btw, i have an ap1 with 85,000miles
Holy thread resurrection

Had my Berk decat on for about 5 months now and loved it. Then I fitted a Buddyclub header and 60mm single cat back. The last week or so it started to smoke in traffic - badly. First I'd smell the oil soon to be followed by lingering smoke out of the tail pipe

Oil consumption has increased but nothing out of the ordinary for a 60k mile AP1.

So I swapped the decat for the cat and the smoking has stopped. I still smell the burning oil but this time no smoke out of the exhaust.

I'm desperate to get the test pipe back on because I loved the sound in VTEC.

Is there anything I can do to stop it smoking with the test pipe
