Clicking sound, Tranny area?
I am getting a clicking sound on my S2000 from the tranny area. The sound is a metal on metal clicking sound. I do not get it at all when the car is out of gear, which makes me suspect the trannsmission. The clicking sound speeds up proportionally with car speed, not engine speed.
I get the sound sometimes under acceleration but I always get it under deceleration, in gear. On acceleration the sound will actually dissapear with solid acceleration, 50%+ throttle. It does not seem to matter what gear the car is in because every gear gets similar symptoms. The only thing is that the clicking starts to dissapear at highway speeds 70+ as far as I can tell.
When the sound was less extreme I took it to a shop that told me it's possible the front joint of the driveshaft went bad and that was making the sound. The sound dissapeared for a while so I thought oh well it's gone. But since I only hear the sound in gear I pretty much count that out.
I know diagnoising a sound is impossible online but even educated guesses would be helpful. I'm also really tired right now so if my writing dosen't make sense I'll try to re-write it after I get some sleep.
Thanks for all your help.

If you can duplicate the sound while the car is in gear at low speeds (parking lot speeds) then have a friend drive your car while you walk outside of it and see if you can pinpoint the noise. I don't have any other suggestions though....

I saw a vid on youtube (which I can't find anymore) of a guy who had the same type of problem.
He could wiggle the actual driveshaft front to back hearing the clicking noise. Check out the driveshaft and see if it can be moved around by hand.
does it sound like this?
