Clicking from rear when coming to a stop

Xviper is on the money. I've been coming across all kinds of rear wheel noises. Single clicks, rotational noises and clicks, rubbing noises. All were cured 100% by re-tighten the axle nuts (the very large nut behind the centercap)

ooh, i hadn't even thought about the hub nuts being loose. my car makes a single click lots of times when changing direction (forward to reverse, or vice-versa), and occassionally if you abruptly positively or negatively load the driveline (i.e., gas it quickly, or let off abruptly w/o declutching).
i was all worried that i'd hurt the rear diff. i was planning on tearing into it one weekend to have a look, but i'll have to check those hub nuts first.

this is awesome! My car is doing that too. I thought my diff was going, or something worst. This weekend i'm going to have the axle nuts re-torqued! Mine happens when I take off from a stop, or when I put it into reverse and go backwards. It sounds like 1 or 2 pebbles being dropped on a closed coffee can. Kind of a solid tick. It has gotten worst now where I can not only hear the clicks, but i can sort of feel them. Maybe I should do this today. hmm

i remember there was this huge 12 page thread about a similiar type of noise (clicking) that was started back in 2001...
i actually have this problem too and i'm going to check that nut and retorque it

I got the same problem.....sounds almost like CV popping sound. I know it is not my CV because it does not do it when cornering or when going over bumps (driveway). I JUST re-torqued the hub nuts a few weeks ago. Dealer said it was "caliper shift." I now know it is pretty much impossible for calipers to shift, but pads can....that is probably what they meant. They replaced the entire rear brake assembly (rotors, calpiers, pads). Now it only makes the noise when applying brake. Not necessarily upon heavy braking.....just at the point where the pads grab the rotors. It does not affect braking performance, but sounds AWEFUL. Any suggestions?

Had something similar a year ago. Had the axle buts replaced and tightened twice. No change . The mechanic then checked the rear brake pads - they were shifting when the breaks were applied. He bent the metal shims slightly at each end to grip the pad better - problem solved. HTH
