Could anything serious happen if it doesn't get fixed?

I don't think anything could possibly go wrong by not getting this issue resolved (Personally i want it fixed because it annoys the crap out of me) if it is the axel hub nut and is improperly torque or not fully torqued .. i think the clicks would only get louder if it does get more leeway or have more play.. but i don't think there are any risks like the axle popping out or anything like that..

i may be wrong but thats my opinion

Check the forum, there are pictures of what will happen if you ignored for some time.

Mainly the bolts will keep hitting the hub and abrasion will happen with time.

I had it for 2 weeks, nothing happened.

now it is fixed
