Default clicking noise in the rear end

I just bought an 04 s2000 and i can hear a clicking noise in the rear end. I can distinctly tell a left from right so i know there are two components. The sound is only created when i get in and out of the power and especial when turning. I belive it is the the outer cv joints on the axles but.

how can i be certain before i swap them if they are the issue?

how hard is it to swap?

will they cause excessive damage in the mean time?

thanks, trent

Start with tightening the axle nut to 220ft-lb (put a thin smear of high temp grease on the back side of the nut when retightening).

If that doesn't do it, then you can try greasing the axle splines where they go into the hub.

If that doesn't work, then it is likely your CVs.

It is the most common cause for a rear end click.

it is more prominent in the AP1 chassis. The old torque spec was 180ftlbs. The AP2 went up to the 220ftlbs. But i dont know about the 04 year. They might of left it low for that year. But i hope it is the problem cause its the cheapest easiet fix. GL

I just had my car in for the same "Exact noise' plus a similar noise in the front.

It turned out that one of the front struts was leaking so they replaced both front struts and then the noise from the rear required them to take off the rear axle clean out the grime/dirt and then re torque the axle nuts. Everything is perfect now.
