Billman...I measured a little over 1 qt of oil that came out. What is the best case and worst case scenario price wise in my situation?

A combination of factors lead to a spun bearing, there isn't an exact oil level at which you will definitely spin a bearing. You can be a little low on oil (around the low mark on the dipstick) and if you don't rev high or take a hard corner, you probably won't spin a bearing. I don't understand how people let their oil level get so low... Just check it every few days and keep it topped up, it only takes a few seconds to check.

If it's jut the bearing itself it's probably not to bad. In this case I'm saying bearing ruined but the metal didn't ruin anything else. Friend of mine did this and we had to:
1. Replace crank ~$1500
2. New bearing set - I think $300
3. new oil pump - cost not certain

Because the bearing went and scarred his crank we had to get a new one.

The problem for cost is going to be if other things are torn up. Like if you scarred the cylinder or did other low oil related damage.

Best case scenario: drop the oil pan, smooth the crankshaft with sandpaper and replace the damaged bearings and you might be lucky and drive tens of thousands of miles without a problem. You shouldn't be out more than a couple hundred bucks if you do the labor yourself.
Worst case scenario: you need an engine rebuild or replacement. The price of this just depends on which route you take and if you are capable of doing the labor yourself. You are talking at least a few thousand bucks if you need a rebuild or replacement engine.

Were you checking it? There have been many cases of improper checking. Not lack of checking.

Price depends on how mechanically proficient you or your buddies are

Actually I'm curious to know what you mean by improper checking Billman?

^ You need to check both sides of the stick and the readings need to match. If you only check one side that's not a good way to do it, because the stick could just be picking up all the oil on one side as you're pulling it out.

thats what i'm saying. People should regularly check the oil in a family car, let alone something performance oriented.

BOTH sides of the stick must be read. If it shows perfect on one side, and nothing on the other, you have nothing.

This issue is specific to the s2k and has cost many people an engine, thinking their oil level was ok.
