CLICK - no start - new battery - fuses all good
Last week the car (01 with about 60,000 trouble-free miles) would not start. Just a single electronic click sound, no sound from the starter. A friend jumped me and I noticed the battery was date stamped 05/10, so I figured it was time for a new one, although it had not appeared weak at all prior to not starting.
Fast forward to yesterday, put a new battery in.
Then tonight, drove to a friend's and wouldn't start. Same thing, single click, no starter sound. Checked all connections, fuses, etc. Tried to jump it - nothing.
Could it be the starter/relay/solenoid? It's the original starter.
Thanks

Single click like that is usually battery. Enough juice to engage the starter relay, not enough to actually turn the starter.
Since its apparently not the battery itself, perhaps issue is battery is not recharging. New battery starts out ok, but since its not recharging, it soon runs out of juice.
Got a voltmeter? Measure the voltage at battery terminals. It should be around 12.6volts for a charged battery. Now jump start the car, and with engine running, measure again. A healthy charging system you should measure around 14.5 volts.

Could be starter solenoid, too.

Check the starter cable for voltage drop.

It started after sitting for a day. Didn't do anything, just got in the car, turned the key and hit the button - fired right up.
So random.
Taking it in for a new starter next week. Will update...
Thanks everyone for the help.

It may be your starter relay, don't go so gung ho about replacing the starter. Clean your terminals. Do the cheap easy stuff first, you never know.
