Click/clunk noise when changing directions
When ever I am going forward, and I stop and back up there is a funky noise. it also does it when I go in reverse, stop and go foward. also does it sometimes from a stop and then going in either direction.
My bestfriends S does the same thing and so did his old S that he had.
Anyone know?

If this has been going on for a while it's better IMO to remove the rear axle from the hub, clean the splines (on axle and in hub) and grease them, grease the thread and THEN tighten the axle nut to spec.

Yep, hub nut. Retorque to 220 lb/ft will probably do it for a while, but I also recommend what Spitfire said. And get new nuts while you're at it, they're only a few bucks.

This forum is LITTERED with DIYs. There's even a TSB in the FAQs. In fact, one post up from yours, in this very thread, I say to retorque the hub nuts to 220lb/ft and that'll do it. I also recommend buying new nuts while you're at it.

I have had this problem multiple times. I first had it for about 6 months, i changed my hub nuts and did torque to the correct 220 ft/lb's The problem came back after a month or so. So i bought new Hub nuts again and this time after torqueing them, I made sure to pound the divet in very good. The problem came back again.
I keep being told it is the Hub nut but i disagree. Anyone have any suggestions? i dont hear hub squeal, just the click when i change momentum such as start, stop, and reverse.

Looks like they've got you covered. I just had this problem fixed not too long ago. Sufficient bitching and moaning to the dealer will land you 2 brand new axles! Ask me how I know. =)
