Default Cleaning Intake Manifold

I recently purchased an oil catch can and will be installing it pretty soon. I checked the intake manifold and the back of the butterfly valve and it is coated in black soot/oil, now would there be much point in cleaning the manifold after I have installed the catch can? Would it increase performance or let the engine run any better?

If so how would I go about cleaning the manifold? Removing from the vehicle then using some sort of aerosol or go in with some petrol and just scrub like hell?

Cheers

Go to an auto parts store and pick up something called intake manifold cleaner. warm the car up to normal temp and then spray the cleaner into the manifold. you will see the dirt flow out of the manifold. make sure to put a rag underneath to catch it. spray a good amount into it. then get in the car and start it up and rev it. you will find that when you try to start it it will have a hard time starting. this is normal. it will start after awhile. then shut the car off and repeat till you don't see anymore carbon inside the mainfold. you will find that after cleaning it out the response when stepping on the go pedal is a lil better.

So you warm warm the car up and then spray it in with the engine turned off? There wouldn't be much flow due to most of it going down to the valves would it? Then once you leave it for a bit spray more in and start the engine up? rev it like hell to spit it all out? Then after a while it'll be a lot better...?

The cleaner doesn't damage the engine in any way correct? and how clean is clean? I would of thought only scrubbing the thing will get i completely clean...?

You could also try seafoam. Creates a pretty cool show but I always hesitated with the S because of the potential spark plug fouling.

So it's "keep intake on and spray in" Vs. "take it off and scrub like hell etc"

cast your votes now....

I wouldn't feel good spraying that stuff inside my engine.

Depending how adventurous you are, just take the IM off, get yourself a Hondata gasket while you're at it, and clean the IM thoroughly.

Yeah that's what i thought.... I don't mind spending extra hours doing it the thorough way though... if it's best to remove the manifold then i'll do it. Was my first plan... Gasket and some sort of cleaner...

It's gonna take me ages to take the intake off any guides?? I got the manual but if there is any shortcuts then be appreciated

maybe I could do a How-To also...?
