Cigarette lighter socket not working.

Cigarette lighter socket not working.
Hey. It's probably been posted so many times on this forum but I couldn't see it on the FAQ's, so here I am. When I first plugged the sat nav in, it worked fine but I stopped at the services and plugged it back in when I got back to the car and no life at all. I took it to Halfords and they checked the sat nav itself and it worked fine so is it the actual cigarette lighter fuse that's blown? I couldn't find it's fuse to check. Is it under the steering wheel? I had a decent look there and I couldn't find it. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

The fuse is under the dash and is number 9(10Amp). After the fuse the power goes through a relay (accessory power socket relay IG2 relay). It is a 5 pin relay. My gues is it is neither of these.
Troubleshoot:
1) Make sure the ignition is on and the clutch is pressed in or car started (the socket relay is powered through the IG2 circuit-IG2 is the cut out which prevents starting the car without the clutch pushed in)
2) If still no power twist the power plug to get better contact.
3) Check the number 9 fuse
a) there are 2 rows of fuses and 9 is the 5th down in the left row
4) Verify the relay is good
a) it is under the driver knee on a US car....5 pin

my fuse goes out occasionally too. check the fuse box. then try another device with a different plug. If all else fails, remove the inside trim and check the cigarette lighter itself and wiring.
I'm no expert, but that what I've done.

I've got a mechanic looking at it for me next week. If in doubt, get a professional to do it, I reckon. Thanks for the welcome. I'm just going to take some photos and post them on my post on the intros thread so be sure to look out for that.
