The dipstick is a range - you want to be between the top and bottom of the Xs
OP, add half a quart, then take a reading. You look 1-1.25 qt low.

Just take the extra 30 seconds and do it. In fact, if you're clever you can use those 'auto gas pump holder hickamajiggers' and not even waste your valuable time. And look; you're multitasking!
Only problem with doing this is that your engine is warm and the reading will be slightly low because of the oil left still in the system.
However, having more is better than not enough with regards to oil. To my knowledge the only negative thing that can happen is the oil pan will have excess oil and it will get all frothy until it burns off. I know this because I checked my oil on a slant (not thinking about it). I ended up adding to much.

mix away aslong as ur not mixing dino oil with full syn. if you dont know what is in there full syn or dyno then do an oil and filter change and stick with either dino or full syn.
use any oil and filter you want and check ur oil at least biweekly. nuff said

You can mix all the oil you want. It won't hurt a thing, all the oil company's mix syn and dino that's how they get a syn blend. I mix my oil in every thing I own and have been doing this for over 2 million miles. I run two different types of M-1 in the "S" and have over 50k miles on my S and my S uses less than 1/4 qt. in 7500 miles(but I have a AP2). If your more than 1 qt. low and all you can find is 20/50, I would put a qt. of 20/50 in it before I'd drive it with that low of a oil level.

AP1's need to be checked frequently. I check mine once a week.. I don't have to add oil usually but I always check it anyways.
and as for mixing oil... It's fine as he said above. Anyone that tells you otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about. Conventional isn't going to feel any better than synthetic, thats for sure.. But as I experiment with different synthetic oils I am not replacing the oil that burnt off with synthetic. Sorry but I just can't see refilling the car with oil that I know I am going to burn off while I'm going through my trial and error process.
I'm going Amsoil next because everyone seems to swear by it.

If you're carefull removing the dipstick you will get a pretty accurate reading on both sides.
Within an X - assuming the engine is cold and the car is level.
Point is to pull the dipstick all the way straight out and not make it touch the sides of the guide (too much).
