Not True. The car may actually run fine. Since when a dtc detected the car is thrown into limp mode. The dtc comes on because it doesnt detect the catalyst conversion or because it isnt happening fast enough. You may use a device "trick" the pcm to clear the light and put the car back into closed loop operation.
I believe YOUR statements are NOT TRUE!

You put down 2 contradictory statements:
The car may actually run fine.
and ..........................
when a dtc detected the car is thrown into limp mode.
How the heck can the car run "fine" when it goes into "limp mode"?
In fact, not all DTCs will cause the ECU to go into "limp mode" and therefore, the car will continue to run OK.

Next, with no cat, there is NO so called "conversion" (your term), so not only is "it" not happening fast enough, it's NOT happening at all.
Then, what's this about "closed loop" operation? It's mainly the PRIMARY O2 sensor (the one in the header) that tells the ECU how to run the engine (air/fuel). The sensor in the catalytic converter is the SECONDARY sensor and contributes very little, if anything, to the running of the engine. It has NOTHING to do with "closed loop" or "open loop" or the loop in your lower intestine.

I love a good argumentative statement!
