check engine light wont go off

Default check engine light wont go off

driving to work about 2 days ago my check engine light came on went to autozone after work and the checked it and printed me out a couple different possibilites. loose fuel cap. nope always double checked that. vapor canister saturated,failed vent solenoid, failed purge solenoid. my car is an 01 has 66k on it what one of these 3 is more likley the culpret and how would i go about fixing it

what it the code? no way to help without it.

Sounds like P1456 or P1457 to me.

P1456 is usually a non-sealing gas cap.

Being loose is not the problem. The problem is the filler neck threads grab the cap threads tightly when you try to tighten the cap. The cap makes its clicking noises as it should, but the seal of the cap did not seat on the filler neck.

Grab the cap by the outside and squeeze it, then further tighten it so the rubber seal on the cap bottoms out snug on the filler neck.

If you have a P1457, it is definitely NOT a gas cap issue.

ok well that fixed the check engine light. never herd of gas caps doing that before. so i guess i need to get a new gas cap now. thanks for the help

No.

The FILLER NECK is the problem. The threads are imperfect. A new cap will not help.
