Default Check engine light came on

It came on tonight after Ive been hearing some wierd noises the past 2 days while driving. One of the noises sounds like a loud clicking belt in the engine bay and under the car. Also, why is the air not flowing out my exhaust smoothly? Its not a constant sound when Im in neutral at a stop. Sounds kinda like an Sti if that helps any, that pulsating pattern. But I can tell something isnt right with my airflow out my exhaust and this clicking sound that just started. Could I have a bad timing belt and/or bad cat converter? Im at 56K miles.

I agree, pull the code. Autozone is your friend.

I think autozone is free to read codes. It takes all of 5 minutes. Or you could buy a scanner for 200-400 dollars and save yourself the hassle. Mine paid for itself many many times. It is also nice when there isnt an autozone around haha

Yeah, pretty much any mechanic should own an OBDII reader. I've always been of the opinion that it's best to just have an OBDII reader of your own (I've seen them for under 100 bucks) and keep it in the car so you can check and/or clear codes as they arise, without worrying yourself to death while you wait for a dealership or mechanic to check it out for you. And it's really very simple to check the code, you literally just plug it into the port in the passenger side footwell and hit the "read" button and it spits out a code for you.

Any auto parts store should carry those readers.. autozone, pep boys, grand auto, etc.
