Check Engine Light

Check Engine Light
I am thinking about buying a 2001 s2k that is supercharged. There is currently a check engine light on. The owner tells me the light has been on since he purchased it (had supercharger when he bought it). He tells me the light is due to the O2 sensors reading too much air and there is nothing wrong with the car. What do you guys think abou this? Do you automatically get a CEL if you have a supercharger? I am going to try to get him to take it to an autozone or something to get the codes read, so I can provide more info.

No, you do not automatically get a CEL with a SC if you do the installation correctly.
What make of SC?
On the comptech, there's a little black box that adjusts the MAP sensor output to the ECU (I'm sure vortech is the same), I would guess it's installed improperly or faulty, they can blow easily if you don't get the wires right.
I would be concerned with the previous owner never addressing the problem and his comment that the O2 sensor is reading too much air, if it's reading too much air and triggering the CEL, the ECU knows this and your fuel maps are all fuxored when you go WOT. ECU doesn't know what to do and you have significant performance degradation and potential for damage.
Get the code, that will tell all.

yea that sounds like Bs to me . get the code see whats wrong. it could be a simple fix Like a vac line,or it could be serious. either way make sure before you buy the car. There is nothing sorse than a supercharged car that you cant drive.

could be vac lines . . . it wouldn't detect too much air, if anything, it would detect that it's running rich.
My 01 is boosted, and I've gotten a CEL twice for running rich in bank 1, but I have the FMU on there . . . I'd definitely get the code checked out, sounds like BS to me

Thanks for the input guys. I have been so busy I haven't been able to get the code from the guy selling. Here is some more info on the car though. Keep in mind I have never done a tuner car before. I have spent most of my days in Mustangs.
