Default Check Engine Light

So, I've been having problems with my car just recently where it's been idling rough or stall out when at a stop and jumps around 2k in rpms at times. It just started after I filled up at a Sam's Club gas station with premium fuel. (Don't flame about the gas, but it was the closest at the time.)
I felt that it was bad gas with the rough idling and everything. Then today earlier I got an error of p0122 which is my TPS. I was going to check it tomorrow when I get access to a voltmeter. But on the way home from work the light went off.......
So should I be worried? What should I do? And is it normal for this car to shut the CEL off?

Usually when a TPS DTC is set the engine runs pretty crappy. Throttle position is a major engine operating signal.

TPS sensors have failed before. The only way to get a new one from Honda is to buy a throttle body. The sensor is held on with tamper resistant screws.

Zacreth, I took the liberty of looking the code in my Helm's manual. Here were their troubleshooting instructions. Good luck.

DTC P0122: TP Sensor Circuit Low Voltage

1. Turn the ignition switch oN (ll)
2. Check the throttle position with the scan tool.

Is there about 6% when the throttle is fully closed and about 90% when the throttle is fully opened?

YES Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time, Check for poor connections or loose wires at the TP sensor and at the ECM.

NO Go to step 3.

3. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
4. Disconnect the TP sensor 3P connector.
5. Turn the ignition switch ON (ll).
6. Measure voltage between TP sensor 3P connector terminals No. 1 and No.3.

TP SENSOR 3P CONNECTOR
SG2 {GRN/YEL) VCC2 (YEL/BLU)
Wire side of female terminals

ls there about 5 V?

YES Go to step 7.

NO Go to step 13.

7. Turn the ignition switch OFF

8. At the sensor side, measure resistance between TPsensor 3P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2 with the throttle fully closed.

.TP SENSOR 3P CONNECTOR

Terminal side of male terminals there about 0.5 - 0.9 k ohms?

YES Go to step 9.

NO Replace the throttle body.

9. Measure resistance between TP sensor 3Pconnector terminals No. 2 and No. 3 with the throttle fully closed.

TP SENSOR 3P CONNECTOR
Terminal side of male terminals

ls there about 4.5 kohms ?

YES Go to step 10.

NO Replace the throttle body.

10. Reconnect the TP sensor 3P connector.

11. Turn the ignition switch ON (ll).

12. Measure voltage between ECM connector terminals C18 and C27.

Is there about 0.3 V when the throttle is fully closed and about 4.5 V when the throttle is fully opened?

YES- Substitute a known-good ECM and recheck(see page xx). If the TP sensor voltage is now normal, replace the ECM.

If NO Repair short in the wire between the ECM(C27) and the TP sensor.

13. Measure voltage between ECM connector terminals Cl8 and C28.

Is there about 5 V?

YES Repair open in the wire between the ECM (C28) and the TP sensor.

NO Substitute a known-good ECM and recheck(see page xx).

If prescribed voltage is now available, replace the original ECM

this is way different. he actually has a CEL. the normal "S2k ECU confusion" does not apply to CELs.

also, please shrink your sig. it's huge.

So the tamper resistant screws can not be removed even if you have the right bit? I haven't looked at my yet so I'm just asking about that.
Am I better off replacing it with a larger one with from King's or no?

Oh btw, this morning after filling the gas tank with good gas from another place the light kicked back on about half an hour of filling the tank.

I need to get a voltmeter to do the checks eluded, but thx for the procedures. I'll have to check once I get some time off from work.

Check the TPS wiring connection, and make sure the TPS is in place firmly.
And yes, it is normal for the CEL to be turned off automatically after 3 consecutive trips with a warm-up cycle without any fault detected by the PCM.

The screws have to be cut off, they have no head on them. You would still need to find another good TPS, and adjust the sensor to provide the correct output voltage at closed and open throttle.

I'll be checking it in the morning tomorrow when i have access to an ohm meter. If it needs to be replaced, could I find one from a junk yard by chance or should I buy it from someplace online?
The local Honda dealership wants $664.00 dollars for it
