I would also recommend you have your valves 'reground'. That is, the machine shop that does your valve seals (and guides I hope), can relap the valves to the valve seats. This is cheap and will essentially finish your head...

We are not pulling the head. Why replace rings when compression numbers are great? I agree with retainers, Andy if I could I would go with some aftermarket Ti retainers and springs, if you have the money. I will do an inspection of the retainers when I have the valve cover off.

Replace the keepers too. They are cheap. I was in the same situation as u and didnt want to pull off the head while replacing everything I could. At the end, I still smell some smoke
