The pistons and rods would need to be unbolted from the crank... So no, that would require a lot more work.

ADDED: I guess it is possible though. LOL

i would do the whole "valve cover gasket kit" it should come with new seals for the whole valve cover including stem seals.

i have never done it on the s but i just did it on the lude and the set was about $60
where can i find that?

i looked on hardtop guy, all i found there was the valve cover gasket for 22 dollars

I would also recommend you have your valves 'reground'. That is, the machine shop that does your valve seals (and guides I hope), can relap the valves to the valve seats. This is cheap and will essentially finish your head...

We are not pulling the head. Why replace rings when compression numbers are great? I agree with retainers, Andy if I could I would go with some aftermarket Ti retainers and springs, if you have the money. I will do an inspection of the retainers when I have the valve cover off.

Did you ever do this and did it fix the oil consumption problem?

Replace the keepers too. They are cheap. I was in the same situation as u and didnt want to pull off the head while replacing everything I could. At the end, I still smell some smoke

This thread is 6 years old. There is plenty of valve stem seal information out there.
