Default Changing Valve Stem Seals...

Like the title says, my compression test was good so now my reason for smoking is apparently due to worn out valve stem seals after 104k miles. My question is, is there anything else I should go ahead and replace and/or do while the valve cover is off? I'd love to go ahead and build the motor and all but yeah that's not going to happen. So other than replacing valve stem seals and adjusting the valves, what else would be beneficial to go ahead and do? thanks

if you don't mind burning some oil, why not just keep driving it? If you dont have bad compression numbers the only thing that will suffer is oil consumption and maybe your cat if you have one.

I would replace the retainers while they are off.

You will have the cams out anyway to do the seals, so at the very least a good close-up inspection of the retainers is a must. I'd almost go ahead and replace both the retainers and cotters. The parts are $135 from hardtopguy.com. Just search his site for 'retainers'.

Retainers are a must!

I'm also changing out stem seals and going with ti dual springs and ti retainers and seats.

You will have to pull the head off to do guides. Everything else can be done with the head still on the car.

i would do the whole "valve cover gasket kit" it should come with new seals for the whole valve cover including stem seals.

i have never done it on the s but i just did it on the lude and the set was about $60
