Changing thru the gears feeling.
Hi guys, I have just bought a used S2000, with 17K's on the clock, in excellent condition, originally bought in year 2000. i would like to ask you the following regarding the information you get to your hand when going thru the gears. I have noticed that it takes a while to get the gearbox into normal operating temperature which is normal, but when changing a low rev's quickly, there seems to be a step before actually securing each change, which step seems to disappear when changing equally fast at high rev's. This step seems more obvious when changing from 2nd to 3rd but not from 4rth to 3rd. Also when pausing fractionally before hitting 3rd from 2nd this step is gone. Mind you there are no strange noises when going thru the gears just this step which is there in all gears more to the 2nd to 3rd shift.
Looking forward to your ideas.
Dika.

Think about changing the transmission fluid. My gearbox seemed to become more notchy over time. I just replaced the fluid (at 9000 miles) and the feel is much improved. The 1-2 and 2-3 shifts are much smoother at cold temperatures. I used Honda MTF from the local dealership.

the tranny is naturally notchy, even brand new. when i changed out my tranny fluid with honda MTF at 4500 miles, the gears still felt notchy when the tranny was cold and shifting at low rpm(below 3k). otherwise, the tranny shifts very nicely at higher rpm(4k+ rpm).
it doesnt hurt to change out the fluid anyways, the fluid is cheap and if you have access to some tools you can easily get it done in 15 minutes. search for xvipers tutorial, its very helpful and straightforward .

I would like to thank you all for your info and suggestions. Next week I will change the gearbox oil and I will get back to you with my impressions.
