Changed trans and diff fluids yesterday
My 2008 has 16k on her, so I decided it was time to change the tranny and diff fluid.
Both were straightforward, except the fill port on the diff. Don't know how I'm supposed to get a socket with a torque wrench on there, so I used a wrench to loosen and tighten.
The old tranny fluid was clean as the new stuff. The diff fluid was murky and nasty looking. Perhaps I need to change the diff fluid more frequently.
The drain plug in the trans did not have a magnet but the one in the diff did. There was a small amount of fuzz on the plug that I cleaned off.
The difference in shifting is today is amazing though.
I dedicated some small spray bottles from the BORG to use in pumping fluids into the various places. Works great. I've labeled each one so no crossover in the future!
Next weekend is the valve adjustment and then I'm done with spring maintenance!
cheers,

Snug it tight, you really can't get a tq wrench in there. You can use a bathroom scale and the length of your wrench. Say it's 1.3' so you divide 33/1.3 = ~25.38 so to get 33ft lbs you need to pull yourself off the scale with the wrench until you weigh ~25lbs less.

You can also practice with the setting on another bolt. You will get pretty close to the "feel" of it. Most good mechanics can get pretty close because they have been doing it so much, its second nature to them.
