I believe the shop manual says 1.56 qt on refill and and 1.71 at overhaul. I just switched from Amsoil MTF to the new Honda fluid and it is still very clicky on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts especially when cold. Is clicky a word It is just the nature of the tranny.

Just bought an AP1 over here in Dubai, extreme heat in the Middle East.

Changed to Honda MTF, dont know if its the new kind cause parts people over here as as good as talking to a wall.

Still a bit notchy when cold but alot smoother when warm, I have no idea what was in there before however. No grinding cold or warm.

To answer your question about overfilling, it is very bad because it causes to fluid to froth thus reducing lubrication property of fluid.

Not my .02 cents but fact from Honda training.

Car will see first track day on April 18th (hopefully) so I can report back how the trans felt

^Right, I understand about OVER-overfilling, but will 0.1/0.2 liters hurt? What is their 'play' on their number? Im sure when a lot of people fill up their trans, they actually UNDERfill it, since the car is usually not level when they do it.

I filled it up with Redline MTL 70W80 last night. It was very much like HMTF at first, a little notchy then it gets better. Each time I have driven it since it has felt better. Shifting at or above 4k is perfect while below feels pretty close to fresh HMTF. I know the HMTF usualy takes a few days to start feeling good and the same seems to be true for redline, we will see how things progress.

It does seem to keep the transmission a little quieter. Every S2k I've ever been is has had a noisy transmission and mine is no different (likely due to a lack of significant insulation and proximity to the driver). I think to quite it down more we will need a slightly thicker oil.

I will be happy if it performs as well as HMTF I just hope it last longer. I have to imagine that this oil will protect better being a synthetic but that is obviously just an assumption.

Quantities are posted by Honda for a reason. Personally I try to get the car on as level a surface as possible, and use 4 same jackstands to try to keep it so.

Im sure its not perfect and my opinion is .1/.2 over or under should not hurt anything, but im not a Honda engineer either.

If they designed it that poorly then Honda engineers are mongoloids but I don't believe that is the case. Well, that's not entirely true.

Anyway, I usually jack the car up just a little more on the drivers side to get it like .1 above the full line. I've changed the trans oil on a few Acuras\Hondas and on level ground with the fluid cold the factory fill is just above the suggested full. If you get any new Honda, put it on level ground and open the fill plug you will likely have some fluid come out..

Why would they over fill from the factory if it wasn't okay...

honda transmissions and tranny/diff (see fwd) are designed so that the change can be made in a parking lot, driveway (see uneven) and thus the -/+ .1oz is ok.

I agree with what you said before too, about the doing it yourself part.

You never know your car until you have had it's transmission or dif oil on your hands, arms and\or hair.
