So my S2000 sat for much of the winter. I changed the oil before putting it away.

I plan on changing the oil again even though this oil only has 800 miles on it (but the oil is 6 months old.


Worth changing the filter too? Or should I just dump the oil and put in fresh stuff?

some cars sit on a dealers lot for ever .800 miles ,your ok to drive it.dont waste your money..

I wouldn't bother changing the oil at all. My understanding is that oil is a mileage and abuse related item. Mile after mile gas and coolant leak into the oil and thin in it out too much. Also, as the oil is subjected to repeated heat and sheering, the additives break down and weaken the oil. Low miles and 6 months would not cause me concern with the oil.

* Again, this is my understanding of the life of oil, if others know more or better, please feel free to correct me.

It's actually more important to change the filter than to change the oil.

Oil absorbs stuff just sitting, the filter never got used so its still new, and Honda recommends changing the oil at 12 months for time, so I would just drive it and change the oil and filter next fall when you put the car back in storage.

I parked mine for 7 months, I changed the oil the day I parked it. And 7 months later when the snow melted, I drained that new oil, and replaced it. I didnt change the filter. I did this for a couple reasons.

Acts as a chance to flush out the engine...Oil soaks up alot of stuff
When refilling the engine with oil, it can re-lubricate some areas that may have gotten dry from the oil being drained/driped into the oil pan over the course of 7 months.
The process costs me 25 bucks.

You can save that unused oil... and use it in your 500 dollar winter beater that you use in the winter time.

I agree. In fact, I know some people that run synthetic that will change the filter at the 5,000 mid-point between oil changes.

What does oil absorb just from sitting?
