Default Change the oil at 1,000 miles?

Well since I was a kid I've always heard every 3 months or 3 thousand miles. My spare car doesn't get much use most of the year, and I change it every 4 months, with probably less than a thousand miles on it. This year the Winter has been brutal and I find it's been 3 months now since I last changed the oil in the S. It's got about 1,200 on it since then. I plan to do it Monday. Am I being foolish?

I think you can wait. I never heard the three month interval. My guideline was always 6 months for time. If you store your car, it is good to change the oil before you put the car up. This gets rid of the acids that form in the oil as a result of the products of combustion which make their way into the oil.

BTW, I've got a place in Falmouth. Are you in Yarmouthport year round?

On this car, it is 6 month intervals if you don't drive the car up to the mileage interval. Just keep an eye on the level.

Yep. Year 'round. This Winter is murder though. Shouldn't be snow and ice on the ground for months at a time down here. I think I'll go ahead as planned and change it out Monday. She sits in the garage for a week at a time, then I drive her for a half hour when we get a dry day. And I can't help but use that engine once it's warmed up. Peace of mind I guess. Thinking about the extended warrantee also even though I've never bought one before for anything as I don't believe in them. But for this car, maybe. How often are you on the Cape?

Well. Two now say I can wait. XVIPER, did you get that information from the manual? Is it because of the coated cylinder walls the contaminants won't leach into the oil as quickly as with a more conventional engine like my Iron Duke in the Fiero? Thanks guys. You've just freed up 90 minutes on Monday!

We go down the cape every weekend in the summer. A lot in the spring and fall too. We were thinking about going down this weekend for a few hours just to check things out. Watch the New England board for events. We did a Cape drive this fall. I'm sure we'll do another soon.

Do you know if there are still autocrosses at Otis? I used to go to club events there years ago.
