Chain Rattle
Hi All
Just wondering if anyone has chain rattle noise on their S2000's ? I have a 2000MY 55k standard S and have noticed that when the engine is cold I seem to get what sounds like a rattle from the timing chain area. Doesnt do it all the time, intermittent at idle and a bit at about 2000-3000rpm as I pull away from my house in the morning. I have replaced the timing chain tensioner 2 months ago so that is not the source.
Just wondering if its anything I need to look at, as obviously anything going wrong in that area is a bg worry
Thanks

Have 200kms on my 02 MY and have had the same problem. Changing the tensioner corrected it for about 6 months but the the rattle was back and progressively worst to the point where I have now replaced the entire chain. I also replaced the tensioner as the old chain woild have grouved it.
Most of the cost was in the strip down of the engine. Don't listen to those trying to suggest that the tensioner change would be enough. Do the proper job. Your car deserves it

depending on how many miles you put on your car since the last timing chain swap, it could be that, maybe valves? dought it though.
My 2k is always making some kind of valve train click and i can neveer seem to be free of clicking. post a video, im sure someone on here will be able to diagnose it once they hear the sound.

Post a video of the sound but before doing that go to the search and lookup "Timing Chain Tensioner".
There are 3 methods of fixing the tensioner for more then 6 months.
1. Sand the worm gear
2. Order a upgraded tensioner from billman
3. Order a upgraded tensioner from another member (forgot his id)
