So it was different each time and not the (P1399 - random/multiple cylinder misfire detected) code?

Maybe bad fuel? U might be running rich. Or your injectors are dirty. Also if you can get a compression test done that might indicate that you have bent valves. Do you hear any knocking from the engine?
I think it was the P1399 actually. I really don't think it's anything serious that would require a compression test. I have babied this car as far as maintenance goes. No knocking sounds at all. The motor sounds really healthy. Quite possibly the injectors although I have tried injector cleaner. I'll try it again.

I searched "cleaning map sensor" and came up with this... sounds like the same symptoms.

"tapped" the map sensor and pulled the ECU fuse although I don't think I had it out long enough (1 min or so) because the CEL is still on.

However, I drove the car 5 miles and didn't run into any abnormal issues so for the time being the tapping trick has fixed my problem.

Well for me it wasn't that the plugs were loose. The porcelain part (white part) was loose. Normally you shouldn't be able to move them at all by hand. But mine were easily movable, which then can shatter because of vibrations and if you're lucky you will catch it in time or hopefully none of the pieces will fall into your cylinder.

Did you replace the valves by yourself?
what do you mean by porcelain? i had my valves replaced by a mechanic due to a missed shift. =( anyhow, i was reading about the knock sensor incidents, can that be the problem?

You might have some cracked retainers. This is what caused my check engine light. Cracked retainers result from mechanical over-revs aka money shift.

Cracked retainers may not be noticed right away, its a problem that progressively gets worst, if bad enough will result in a dropped valve which = blown motor. In my case, my CEL didn't come on right away after my money shift, it took one whole day to pop on. I stopped driving it as soon as it did. When the head was taken off I discovered that I was mm's away from dropping a valve.

Here's a good thread w/ more info.

Hope this helps

You can pull off the valve cover to check for cracked retainers. You're not looking for a crack, but for a sunken valve stem. There should be a pic in the link I posted.

really? darn! well when i had my valves replaced it was due to a mishift, i replaced all 16 valves since most of them were bent, but never considered buying the springs and retainers... so you think?

The white part of the spark plug. Thats what came loose for me and I've read around the forums and it seems a few people have had the problem including my buddy w/ a MY03.

lol! thanks for the pic, and excuse my stupid question. well i pulled out all 4 spark plugs and they all seemed intact.

i'm really concerned about this problem now. i've done the "MAP whack" and nothing, checked the knock sensor.. nothing. plugs are fine.. i don't want to take it to the stealership because i just can't trust them. matter of fact is i can't trust any mechanic around my area!!!

now that i've read about the retainers cracking, i'm horrified. i guess i'm gonna have to take the risk of a mechanic.

Post in your local s2ki forum for a shop recommendation.

Follow the troubleshooting procedure in this thread EXACTLY:

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=659930

Then come post again if you still have a misfire.
