Thumbs down CEL: P0172 whats the probable cause?

code: P0172 "Fuel system too rich"

2004

The CEL only comes on for a few days and turns off on its own. It always comes on a few hours after I fill up. The CEL seems to go away once I get about 1/4 of a tank.

Fuel regulator?
What should I really be concerned with here??
whats the cost of fixing??

anyone have suggestions?

Thanks!

If you FPR is clogged or stuck closed it will raise the fuel pressure and when the injectors do open up they will spray alot of fuel. Check your spark plugs to see how they look to get a better idea of how rich it is. I'd buy a new fpr. I'd be somewhat concerned because a rich motor can burn valves just like a lean one can

pull plugs to see if its only in a specific cylinder. Check o2 sensor.
