CEL Not Lighting Up!

CEL Not Lighting Up!
Hello All,
I just purchased this 02 2000. Being the dummy I am, I didn't notice the CEL didn't light up when starting the car (And come right off like it should.) Out of curiosity, I put an odbII scanner on today and got 9 codes!! One misire in each cylinder, general misfire, and some 02 related codes (using test pipe.) Is it possible to modify the car computer to not display the CEL ever? Or maybe it's just a burnt bulb? Also - how would I go about finding out if this is the stock computer in the car? I reset the codes after writing them down, and only the 02 related one has come back. Thank you!! In case anyone is wondering, I got the following codes:
p0141
P0301
P0302
P0304
P0411
P0128
P0300
P1399
P0411

I'd guess the bulb was removed or a little bit of electrical tape was put over it. I would not suspect it has an aem or other standalone as only k-pro communicates to the obd port. Take a peek under the drivers' side kick panel for the ecu. Maybe you didn't inherent any serious issues. Keep an eye on those codes and inspect your cluster for the cel bulb issue.

OK...thanks! I'll take a whack at it tomorrow and report back. Most of those codes I think are emission related, or maybe from the cheapo plugs that were in the car when i bought it. Got the good stuff in now, so maybe it won't come back!!

Same thing happened to me when I bought a BMW 540i. Got the car from Cali, drove it home, and noticed it didn't light up. Found that the the ABS, Traction Light, and Brake light were taped up. As well as the CEL light :/

I learned a long time ago when I go to look at a used car I bring my little OBD2 pocket scanner with. Pull the codes before you drive it and see if the owner cleared the codes right before you got there. It's cheap insurance.

Almost guaranteed the bulb was removed.
Engine misfire codes can mean serious damage. If the bulb is missing, I'd go back there for a full refund.
If they didnt cooperate, I'd bring in the media. Sellers like this make me sick and should be put out of business, end of story.
for the codes that return immediately like the o2 codes, a new o2 sensor is a likely fix. The o2 codes could possibly contribute to the misfire codes.
The P0411 is simple vac lines likely, search that code here. This code is sure to return over time.

Unfortunately this was a private sale . I'm now a little pissed at the garage I took it to, who supposedly inspected all of these things and gave me a thumbs up. Luckily, the car is idling fine, drives fine, and I believe the O2 code is from the test pipe this guy had on. I'll get a berk hfc or stock cat and new o2 sensor and report back. Misfire codes haven't come back on in the 100 miles I've put on it since yesterday...fingers crossed!
