Default CEL on because of Gas cap?

Basically is what the title says. The Check Engine Light (CEL) has come on since this past Thrusday. I went to my friends house that same night because he has ( i cant think of the name right now) a little computer that he hooked up to my car and tells you the code and what the code means. He tells me is the Gas cap that was loose and that is no big deal. So he opened the gas cap then closed it again about 5 to 6 clicks and then he reseted the light. today the light came on again, i called him and he said that its fine, that i only need a new gas cap. Well im just wondering if any of you guys and girls had this problem before and if yes, How can i fix it? im sorry if this has been coverded before but i couldnt find anything on this. Any help will be Highly appreciated. Thanx again!

there have been reports of faulty gas caps by some owners, it can happen to any vehicle though. On my 02 my gas cap wasn't fitting properly and I had to replace it, not sure how it happens but it does. Honda gas caps are expensive, don't know if you can find a generic one somewhere.

It happened to me a coupla of years ago. A forum member told me to ignore the cel and it would go away in a couple of days. It did and has never returned. I think this will work for you too.

Sakes alive! How many times does the same information need to be relayed? On '02 cars (and some early '03 cars) it is the fuel filler neck that was faulty. Replacing the gas cap is only a temporary fix. The faulty fuel filler neck will only mess up your new gas cap.

The correct fix is to replace the fuel filler neck and also get a new gas cap. Honda did this for free for the original owners if they knew enough to go in and complain about it.
