Cat. Bolts and Exhaust Install
#1
Hey guys,
For those of you who have installed or have looked at the exhaust components on the Stook I have a question. While installing an HKS exhaust over the weekend I had no problem removing two of the three nuts that connect the cat. to the exhaust section. However, one nut was a bitch to remove, requiring a breaker bar the whole way. Once, removed I found that the bolt and nut were stripped. I am assuming that the nut was cross-threaded from the factory. The bolt appears to be press fit into the flange on the cat. Do any of you know how I can remove the bolt? And no sledgehammer jokes!

Sorry, I don't have any advice on how to get the stripped bolt out. But I doubt the bolt was cross-threaded. Exhaust bolts get messed up from all the heat. Always use lots of anti-seize on them to keep them from getting messed up in the future.
Hope everything works out getting the bolt fixed... if you can't get it out, you might try getting a die from sears and re-threading it.

Remove the cat and press the stud out of the flange with a shop press. If you don't have access to a shop press, you can try to press the stud out with a tall, heavy duty drill press and a block of metal, just remember to open the chuck jaws up so you don't crush them -- use the chuck body (flat area where jaws go into -- see diagram)

If you do have access to either press, use a 5 pound mini-sledge hammer and pound the f*cker out.

Mine was not trouble at all to get apart all three times.
To me the bolt looks like it is pressed in much like a wheel stud in which case just try tapping it out with a hammer.
But you need to look at it closer because sometimes these kinds of things are spot welded into place.
If this works you won't need to hit is very hard.
I suppose someone could look it up in the manual?
