It is fine to use, just make sure its a GL-5 fluid. I actually prefer Syntec motor oil over Mobil 1 motor oil.

"Motor" oil won't ever be rated GL-5.

In where? The OP started off talking about rear diff fluid (I think), then somebody starts talking about motor oil. Are you talking about tranny fluid or what? Having a particular type of fluid in the rear diff shouldn't make a lot of difference to how the transmission shifts.

OK, everyone, please state which component you are talking about - engine, transmission or rear diff?

I was close to using it (Castrol Gear Oil) since it's readily accessible through retail stores (walmart/canadian tire) but opted to order in Amsoil for the few dollars more.

I'm sure it's good, it's just Castrol has had a poor history.

Never said it was, I'm not retarded. I was making a statement saying that I prefer Castrol synthetics to Mobil 1 synthetics. I figured by specifying one as a GL-5 and the others as motor oil people would figure out easily enough that I was talking about different fluids.

I am talking about differential fluid.

Should I try to find the Mobil1 (pain in the butt) or should the Castrol be OK?
