It's actually pretty easy to clean the tips. I don't mind cleaning it like once a week. As long as the soot is not a sign of an engine problem then I am cool with it.

Just like Wisconsin said-if you are running in the upper rev range (who doesn't) the mixture will turn rich. Also, I think some oil gets burned during "spirited" driving at VTEC changeover.
+1 on Simple Green. I use that stuff religiously. Be careful though...its not as harmless as people claim. You CAN hurt stuff with it.
I've also seen people use a diluted mixture of acid at detail shops. Never used it myself though.
