Default carbon build up

Ok so i just took my head off of my car because im getting it machined and swapping in new valves. after i took the head off i noticed the tops of the pistons are very dirty and there is quite a bit of carbon build up. Now im going to leave the pistons in the block, is there a good way i can clean the pistons without scraping them? or is scraping the carbon off the pistons ok? i dont want the carbon buildup to fall into cylinders or fall into the areas surround where the coolant is.

any suggestions?

if you want to get it off you could try petrol and a lint free cloth...good old scrubbing

just leave it, carbon build up = higher compression = more hp

Leave it alone.

You are burning gasoline. Carbon on the pistons is normal. It's not going anywhere unless you start trying to clean them.

no problems. You might cause more trouble if you try to clean them and you get carbon caked up down around the piston rings.

dont try anything unless you are taking them out and cleaning them all together, with power tool and unskill labor you can create a hot spot on the piston

Pulled the head off a Civic once that had a blown head gasket. Cylinders 1and 4 had usual carbon build up. Cylinders 2 and 3 where crystal clean. Made me consider water injection.

The coolant it was eating isn't good for the rings or the bores
