This sounds like a problem with the switch/wiring connections on the clutch pedal. Could also be a loose connection on the starter motor. Bad battery or dirty terminals. Bad starter solenoid or starter cut relay.
How intermittant is it? Also when it doesn't start, do the headlights and horn work at the same time? Can you push the clutch pedal in several times and get the starter motor to turn over? When it doesn't start, does it do anything at all, like click? Have you attempted to jump start it when it doesn't start?
Good luck,
Bob

First some questions.
1. How often do you drive this car?
2. When you pushed the start button, what happened? Any noise at all? Did the top stop working? Did other electrical items stop working?
3. After driving it, did it restart as normal, or did you notice some difference?
4. How long has it been sitting for right now? Have you tried to restart it yet? Why wait? Go try it right now.

Always check the cheap, simple, silly things first:
1. No new floor mats that might keep the clutch pedal from going down far enough to allow the "federally mandated, just in case you're too stupid to live" switch to allow the starter to work?
2. Remove both battery terminals. Remove the negative(-, probably black wire, first. I don't want to take the time to explain why. Just remove the '-' first. Put the "-" wire back on last.) Use whatever you have to clean the terminals (the inside of the holes in the terminals) and posts on the battery to make a bright, shiney electrical contact. At various times, I've used a nice, special "battery brush", a regular wire brush, sandpaper, or a pocket knife. "Back in the day", I've seen more than one car with headlights that worked, but the terminals were oxidized enough that they wouldn't carry enough current to run the starter motor. And it costs nothing to clean the posts and terminals; if that isn't the problem, you've only lost a couple of minutes of your time.

Here are some answers...
Its never done this before, so not really intermittant. I just started it that one time when I got home. The headlights will go on and it will not start. Tried pushing the clutch in several times and it wouldn't start. The car is a daily driver. The battery terminals are clean and everything is connected. Nothing weird happens nor any idiot lights come on when it wont start. There is a clicking sound when I press the start button.
