car won't start: all electrical is dead
Hi there,
Last night, I pulled into a gas station to fill up. Afterwards, when I put the key in the ignition and turned it to the on position, I thought I heard a small click sound, then all electrical power to my car completely shut off. Lights dont work, hazards dont work, dash lights, radio, door locks....everything. It's as if the battery has been yanked from the car.
I had a tow truck try and jump it but nothing changed. The strange thing is, the car was running perfectly fine before that (and I had stopped at the grocery store literally 5 minutes prior and it started fine).
If a battery is dying, small things like interior lights should still work right?
Has anyone else run into this problem or know what I could do to start diagnosing the problem? I followed the positive connector from the battery to the fuse box and jiggled it a bit to see if the connection was loose but it seemed normal. The fuse didn't look blown either.
Thanks for any help!

When I run into that problem the battery negative cable had broken off the firewall. Inspect it very carefully, as it is easy to miss at first.
The exact scenario happened to me. All power dead. I checked the battery and it was 12.6.. full charge. Then I checked the 100 amp fuse and it was good. Then I move the neg cable and there it was... snapped off completely. Good luck!

It was indeed the negative cable on the battery!! I noticed that my battery was not strapped down at all, so the repeated movement of the battery from going over bumps probably caused it to slowly rip away from the firewall.
Thanks so much for that amazing tip!
