Revving to redline with no load is asking for disaster. You should not do this.

Put it on the road, run it up in second or third gear and tell us if you think there is something wrong.
i have always known NOT to rev the car without load...
but what exactly does it do / harm ?

I don't mean to be critical, but I just don't understand this part. What we have here is a failure to communicate.
haha sorry. i had a hectic day.

anyway, what i am saying, when free-revving the rpm usually drops and increases from redline fairly quickly (ie: start of race in gt4 or a normal car for the fact of the matter) however with the S, the rpm drops, pauses for a good 2 seconds then increases SLOWLY.

anyway... scratch that.

i have attempted to redline in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear with the same results!

You're giving me the shivers every time you mention GT4. Don't expect a real car to behave like a car in a video game.

I will throw in my .02

I think that your clutch is slipping and or your pressure plate is bad.

I would be interested to know what it is when you find out. Please either post or PM me when you figure it out.

The s2k doesn't have a serviceable fuel filter.
ok i guess i have to get super technical even with the kiddies here. i was suggesting, so that you would head in the right direction. check valve clearances. chances are on that prehistoric s2k you have, they need to be adjusted.
also along that timeline, if they are all sweet, then you need to throw on an inline fuel pressure gauge, close the hood, lay the gauge up by the wipers, and then go drive down the road. pick the gear where you notice the lack of power and rail it from down below vtec right on through it. watch the gauge. if it falls quickly below spec when you hit vtec.. walaah! you need to pull your fuel pump and change it. or if your cheap, just change the sock (fuel filter) that goes on the end of it. sounds to me like you have a lack of good solid fuel volume. but, i could be wrong. hence the valve specs idea. other than that, if you continue to drive it hard, chances are youll get some codes, or the prob will get worse, making it easier to diagnose. prob best to drop it off at a well known honda dealer and let em play with it. take it easy. lates dave

I am not a master mechanic, but I'll take a stab at it. Load as in tension on the engine. When there is no load, (revving engine in neutral or maintaining high rpm's in low gear) there may be a miniscule amount of slap. This slap could cause accelerated wear on the engine internals.

If I am wrong, somebody correct me.

video game or not, i am pretty sure any other car will drop from a rev-limiter and hit redline quickly. i just pointed out the GT4 since the first thing to do is mash the pedal for take off.

i don't believe it's the clutch/pressure plate. the engine struggles to hit redline and drops the rpm at 8600 like a rev-limiter.

i really hope it's a MAP sensor problem... i am stumped.
