Default Car under critical condition

2003 AP1 72,000 miles -- test pipe & HKS exhaust

Pre-Symptoms:
- Took off the IAC valve to give it a good cleaning one day ago
- Car runs perfect next day
- Day after that, car runs fine UNTIL I leave it parked with the ignition on and A/C running for ~ 5 minutes which then leads to the coolant temp reaching all the way to the H on the temp gauge on the dash.
- After noticing, which it could have been like that for 1-5 minutes, I immediately turn off the car
- I notice the IAC valve was leaking coolant and I took it out and saw that a piece of towel had caught onto the thread of the securing bolt, so I took that off and re-secured it

Current Symptoms:
- Car now throws misfire codes P0300-P0304, runs like shit at 1st - 2nd gear and under 3k rpms during those gears, emits white smoke from the tailpipe under acceleration, and sputters a lot also
- I have already done a valve adjustment, changed spark plugs, and added fuel injector cleaner about 2k miles ago.
- After inspection of the ignition coil, I notice the little spring in the chamber is loose and moves side to side; is this normal?

From what I have concluded, I believe it is either a bent valve or burnt head gasket. I am about to perform a compression test to gain further information. If any experts out there have advice as to what condition my car is in, please chime in. Thanks

Check the coolant levels? Sounds like the gasket between the IACV failed (between coolant chamber and air chamber) which is causing air to get into the coolant system which is making it run hot? Also putting coolant into your intake aswell which would throw out the white smoke.
Yes the spring in the coils are suppose to be loose.
The excess heat could of messed up something.. Did your fans kick on?
Oh and running stock I have never had the temp gauge go past three bars

Oh sh*t you're right. I forgot to put the the gasket back into the IAC valve when reinstalling

Is this is what is causing all my problems? Where would I get another one

Indeed my good sir
Stealership or majestic. Dont run until then if I was you. Hopefully you didnt destroy anything with the car overheating but if it was only a split second you should be ok.

Dammit. My coolant was low too, I added it straight to the radiator than tapped up the reservoir. Hopefully nothing was damaged in the process... After installing the gasket, everything should normalize?

Should be aslong as it wasnt overheating for too long (which overheating for 1 second is too long). Just dont run it until then, install gasket, check everything out to make sure nothing was damaged (probably will be fine) and eat cake.

Yeah it was overheating for about ~3 secs or more before I noticed and cut if off & added water to the radiator cause I didn't have any coolant. I'll report back once I get the gasket from Honda tomorrow. Thanks for all your help.

P.S. I'm an idiot

Make sure you bleed the coolant system to get all the air out or it will keep overheating--Billman has a great writeup on how to do it -- should be able to find it with a search .

Good luck

Good call on the coolant flush. The dealership won't have the part until Friday. Is it possible to use some type of Permatex gasket maker instead of the actual gasket? I'm afraid that over time it's gonna break down and little pieces are going to get sucked in.

Thoughts?
