Are you using quart bottles or gallon jugs of oil? Most oil jugs come in 5 quarts. I'm not assuming you didn't know this - just wanted to rule out the obvious.

I'm using a 5quart jug. I'm left with about a quart after I fill up. I also rechecked the car after driving it saturday and the oil level is still just 1 x under the H.

There is definitely something wrong if you're only using 4 quarts.. What year is the car? How many miles?

I can't believe none of us thought to ask this yet... but you ARE replacing the oil FILTER when you're changing your oil, right?

If you don't change the filter, it will take less oil than with a new filter.

You should always change the filter IMO, although some cars (like my Accord) don't actually recommend a new filter for each oil change.

^^^The '06+ factory recommended maintenance minder schedule on the S actually only requires a new filter every other oil change. Anecdotally, I've heard that the filter actually filters better when a little bit dirty. Don't know if this is correct or not. Nonetheless, I change my filter with every oil change and I'm easily getting all ~5.5 quarts out and back in.

Its an my03 with 68k miles. And I did change the filter with it. For now I think as long as I keep checking my levels I'll be ok.

5 Us quarts (4.8L) is about right (last oil/filter change let it drip out hot oil for 45 min)

5quarts put me right under the H and had it drain for over an hour today. Oil from the dipstick looks clean as from the bottle it came out of and with a new filter.

who knew oil change could be so hard.....
is the drain bolt still open when you pour the one quart in to flush ( a waste if you ask me ) this could also be the reason why you only can get 4qts in.

if you really want to know how much is in the car now. drain the oil into a clean container and see how much comes out. the oil filter and oil coating in the engine should be about half a quart. so you should be able to measure ~4.5 qts on a regular drain

this is the most ridiculous discussion ever.

Just replace your oil AND filter and refill with 5.1qtz like Honda recommends and gone on your marry way. Check oil level every couple hundred miles.

repeat every 3k miles.
