Started it going to work and it idled REALLY low this time before shooting up to 2000. Drove it less than 0.1 miles, shut it off for 15 mins, and started it agian and it didn't even hesitate, started right up as normal. Have a video, will post when I get home from work but any ideas are welcome as it feels like the problem may be getting worse on just cold starts. Should I just take it to a mechanic and see what they say, or keep searching for solutions?

Bump.

Problem getting MUCH worse! See this video for an update to my issues:

Note -- The colder the weather, the worse the issue is. This start was after a very cold day that saw a bit of snow.

HELP!?

EDIT: Just went out and started it up on this hot 70 degree day. Boom, instantly started not a single hiccup. Started, revved up to 2k still, but still didn't bog AT ALL. DEFINITELY a cold weather issue.

does it start better with your headlights turned off?

I'd have the battery tested if when it gets cold it is sluggish to crank the engine over like that.

I have the same EXACT problem as you. For now, I just tap the start button a couple times before actually starting it up. That works every time, but I'm still curious what's causing our cars to do this in the cold weather. Just curious, does your oil light flicker for like .1 seconds right after it turns off initially after the first start of the day?

Biscuit -- I dont think so, no.

Shaney -- It sounds like now that I've found out it's tempature related, this could be a common problem. Wonder what causes it?

If your battery can't hold a charge or the charging system is not fully recharging the battery --- you'd expect to have the most problems during cold starts. After the car has been sitting overnight or longer. On exceptionally cold mornings.

How old is the battery? Cable connections to the battery clean & secure?

Battery is 3 days old. (I thought the same thing, and just replaced it)

Connections are secure and cleaned with battery cleaner before attaching new one.

No signs of electrical problems during the start. It starts fine, cranks immediately, and all the lights work properly bright -- it just has serious bog in the cold.

Check to see if the alternator is fully charging the battery. Here's a video clip:

I had the alternator tested when I got the battery, it passed all the tests.
