when you let off the clutch and give the car gas what does it do?
does it move a little? does it just rev up?
weird problem never really heard of it.

Is there any resistance when you push the clutch in. Check your clutch fluid resevoir first. If you can get the car up have someone watch the clutch fork to see if it is moving. I would bet it is clutch related.

I do remember the story about someone getting their driveshaft stolen once, would be kinda funny if it happened again.

Otherwise it sounds like your clutch The disc is either so worn that it won't engage now (did the car drive normally last time you drove it? no slipping?) or I guess it's possible for for the mechanism to be stuck in the disengaged position.

Usually if its a hydraulic system failure the clutch will be stuck engaged, and the only way you're getting it in to gear is with the engine off or by rev matching at speed.
