Car smoking crazy only in VTEC!?
Ok, so pretty much all of a sudden my car smokes while only in VTEC now. I have 137k miles on MY01 and the valve adjustment hasnt been done yet... I know it needs to be done... Im kicking myself in the ass over that b/c I know better. Anyways, Im going to pull the plugs this weekend and clean them off and see if that helps anything. While I know seals and rings will cause a car to smoke I just don't feel that this is the cause. Maybe because the car is only smoking in VTEC and no other time. My car has always run rich as hell since I've owned it but I don't think its running THAT rich to make that much smoke. Could it be that my car could be smoking from the valves being WAY out of spec? I would attempt to do my own valve adjustment but I'd feel much more comfy with someone who knows what they're doing overlooking things and I can't take it to a shop b/c Im strapped for cash.

I burn up about 1 qt. every 1k miles or so. I do maintain my car, I've been strapped for cash lately though which is why the V.A. is as overdue as it is. If valve guide seals are toasted how much should I expect to fork out to get them replaced?

i'd recommend a set of krank vents which will seal your engine better and keep oil from slurping through the pvc valve into your intake manifold.

Yea, Ive had someone else recommend that to me as well. I will probably order a set really soon. So eitherway it goes, this is a temporary fix at best? Can anyone give a ballpark on how much replacing the seals gonna run me?

Maybe you should do a basic compression test and then a leakdown to see where your engine heath is. Otherwise you're just spinning in circles.
Krank vents will help your engine in either case.
