Everytime I turn on my AC, the car shudders and almost dies. It also makes a rattling noise that goes away when I depress the clutch. Any ideas on what it needs? Other than the initial shudder, the car runs fine, maybe a little hesitant, but good. Even the idle is good.

when you turn on the AC, the initial power spike from running the AC could be disrupting the engine?

That sounds right. But what about the metal rattling when the AC is on. As soon as the clutch is pressed, the noise goes away.

Bringing this back from the dead as I still have yet to find a solution. It seems to start with the fan and turn right off after the fan turns off. Other than that, the sound isn't there. It's on and off every 35 seconds.

Also, I can make the sound go away by. Pressing the clutch in.

clutch rattle is somewhat normal from what ive heard , mine has no such noise so I have experience with that .If your car drops in rpm when u turn on the air , again normal ...mine does do that ...after a tune up its much better , so maybe simple tune up is all that is needed ...best of luck

By tune up, what do you mean? I had the clutch changed out about 2 years ago and had all the corresponding parts put in brand new. I figured it would have fixed it. It's not so much the engine rpm drop from the AC turning on. It's the loud knocking sound that occurs when the fan gets turned on. It is really loud and goes away when I press the clutch in. It's really annoying and kind of embarrassing to be quite honest. I'll post a video of it later on this afternoon when I wake up.
