Thumbs up Car idles at 2,000 RPM at start up

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else in here is having the same issues I'm having on the car. Car idles at 2,000 rpm when ever first start the car and after not driving it for awhile like when I'm at work. It drops down to 1,000 RPM after 3 mins, is that normal, from 2,000 rpm to 1,000 rpm after 3 mins?? Shouldn't it be 1,500 rpm at start up and then back down to 1,00 rpm? car is an 06 with only 18k miles on it. Any solution? Thanks everyone!!

Why do you think this is a problem? Did your car used to start at 1500 RPM?

It's normal. Engines idle higher on a cold start to prevent predetonation. My 06 idles at 2k when cold, 1k when warm.

most engines run at a higher RPM while cold in order to heat up the catalytic converter quickly. The cat really doesn't do it's job until the catalyzing metals inside are hot.

Yes, perfectly normal. My 05 does the same. If you don't notice and sluggishness in the car then everything should be fine.
Bump for Ap2
