Default Car holding gear

01 s2000, stock clutch etc. 120k miles as of tonight

My issue is, it feels like my clutch/trans is holding gear even when the clutch is depressed.

When shifting gear, pushing in the clutch and the rpms still hold.

When going from one gear to another, when pushing in the clutch you have to push the shifter a little harder than normal.

This isn't all the time, its every once in awhile.

I am not sure if this is related, but I also hear a pinging type of noise but can't figure out where its coming from.. its kind of like a loose washer kind of sound which isn't really that descriptive but a noise is hard to describe, possibly a rattle?

Any ideas?

You may have a clutch master or slave cylinder leak. That would decrease the hydraulic pressure, and cause the clutch to drag. It could also be rust on the transmission shaft (I think I heard that to be somewhat common on the s2000's) that would keep the clutch and pressure plate from sliding, get hung up, and drag the clutch on the flywheel.

Check your clutch fluid, make sure its full. Also check your master cylinder under the dash (follow the clutch pedal up to the shaft it pushes into the firewall) is there fluid leaking out if it, or fluid on the carpet under it?

I know it was leaking before but it was replaced with a used one that came off my friends car after a part out. I will give that another try though, hopefully that may be all that it is.

i agree with operator but it could also be the pressure plate of the clutch.

Will try that. Hopefully that's all, I have 120k on my car but my clutch was supposed to be replaced by previous owner.

I would...

First Bleed it, and refill with fresh fluid.

Then if it doesnt go away you probably have a bad slave or master cylinder or both. I know when i put a new clutch in my 3000gt the master and slave cylinder went out shortly there after. (about 1-2k miles later)
