Default Car has trouble starting for a short time after driving it

Hey everyone,

I've had this problem for a while now where if I drive for a while then shut the engine off for a short time (usually under 30 minutes) the car will have a hard time starting. It will try cranking weakly and usually barely just make it and start the engine, but rarely it will just fail and I'll have to wait about 30 min to try again. I suspect it has something to do with the battery overheating and needing some time to cool down, but would like to see if anyone has had this issue before ordering a new one (as I'm not sure if it might be some other problem entirely that someone else knows about). Thanks in advance!

I had this exact same issue and it ended up being a worn starter. Everyone helped me diagnose possible electrical issues but everything else checked out okay.

I have monitored battery temps before in this car and never found them to be the issue.

It's the original battery (I have an 09) but the strange thing is that when I wait a while and start it, it works perfectly

Interesting - thanks! Would you happen to know why a worn starter would cause these symptoms? Why would waiting for the car to cool down cause it to work again?

Also, which part would I need from here? http://estore.honda.com/honda/parts/...&b=E++0710&dl=

I don't know the exact issue. The starter is my car was already a remanufactured unit so I suspect that had something to do with it. If I were you I would just buy a used starter from the classifieds. I had one lying around from when my motor was replaced.

Heated metals have higher resistance. Maybe, just enough to drop voltage so engine won't start --- with a worn-out starter. As the conducting wires cool, resistance drops enough to allow you to start car.

Seeing how it's 7 years old you may want to get it checked anyhow.

I had a similar issue on a 98 accord, turned out to be the starter relay.
