Default Car feels sluggish after valve adjustment

So I had a valve adjustment done at 127k miles. I want to say it was the first time it was done. The car drove great before the adjustment. I just got the VA as a maintenance to-do. The guy that did it is a trusted, and repsected Honda guy. He did state that the valves were very tight. He stated the valves don't close all the way when this happens. He adjusted it to factory spec. .008 intake and .010 on exhaust. Started up just fine. No crazy valve tapping or anything.

So after getting the car back it seems sluggish in the 2500 to 4000 area. I did reset the ECU so the car can adjust but it doesn't seem like its got any umph in that power band. Before VTEC would hit hard and now it hits but not like before. The clutch isn't slipping or anything like that. The spark plugs are only about 20k miles old and they are the recommended NGK plugs.

The only mods I have is a K&N drop in w/ snokel, 63mm Berk TP mated to the factory AP2 exhaust.

Any idea what it could be?

hard to say, its possible your ecu still needs to adjust to the changes, maybe vtec engagement feels smoother since your powerband is greater before vtec

vtec should not be snapping, it should be really smooth engagement. the fact that your valves were tight before may meant they were not fully closing resulting in vtec to engagement a lot more harsh vs have the valves seated properly and making everything work a lot smoother?

i dont know man i tired from my knowledge of b series honda motors.

That makes more sense. I havent ridden or driven another S2k so I only speak from driving my car. I guess I was used to vtec hitting at a certain rpm and once it didnt, it seemed like the car was not how it used to be.

He did not gauge them to get the exact measurement but when he tried to use the .008 or .010, they would not slide in at all. Not drag either.

Any further input Bill? I mean what if they were they tight? Would that mean it would cause what I was describing prior to the adjustment?

I am going to make a good assumtion that the prior owner did not do any VAs in the time that he owned it. I bought it at 99k miles.
