canvas roof repair
I've discovered a small (1") rip in my roof. the rest of the material is in good shape. Anyone have a good repair material, until I can afford to replace it.

My '00 had the typical tears on both sides of the top and I tried almost all the fixes but the only one that has worked is the fix posted here that suggested vinyl and RTV. A trip to the fabric store and a tube of Ultra Black RTV provided a better fix than any kit or material from a local top shop.

I have used E6000and some generic black canvas with luck, see my last post in this thread. After a year or so though I have some discoloration of the top where the glue was applied. It looks like a white residue around the area. Either way the patch has held up and is only meant as a temporary fix until I decide to get new top.

Sometimes the hole is big that its just better to patch it from the outside. This is what I used. It holds up quite well. It doesn't hold up quite well on the inside part though, only the outside where the material is more vinyl than fabric.

If your tear is a clean cut, the racer_x_123 method of patching from the inside with RTV should work well.
If it's ragged or really gouged, the Honda method of using two OEM pieces of roof vinyl should be better. You can buy the OEM fabric from Honda parts department.
You cut out a rectangle a little larger than the damage then trace out an outside patch using the hole as a template (make sure to align the "weave" pattern). Then glue an inside patch, which is larger than the hole you cut, on the inside. Finally glue the outside patch into the hole you cut, pressing it hard from both sides to get a flat patch. No patch job will be completely unnoticeable but this method should look pretty clean.
