can't get the oil filter off

why don't you just wrap a thick rubber band around it before you start stabbing it to get some grip. just make sure it is clean. then go spend 4 bucks to get the tool.

thanks for everyone's input. i had to make a trip to the parts store and buy an oil filter wrench...i figure i'll get some use out of it in the future.

if you think its hard on this car, try a turbo engine where it gets so hot the gasket almost seals itself.
honda sells a oil filter wrench, its basically a 12sided adapter that mates to your standard socket set and you will easily remove that filter.
option 2 buy the largest set of channel locks you can ~ 24" or 26"

I use one of those too. Works great. Has worked great ever since the night I had to walk down the street, buy it from the auto parts store about 1 minute before they closed, realized I didn't have my wallet or any money with me, beg them to let me take it anyway, and come back the next morning with the cash.
That was almost 20 years ago, and that wrench has worked great ever since.
